Forgotten

Updating blog, found a painting that was sold before it was posted. Must have been forgotten. So glad we do not have to feel forgotten.  God is always with us.

Jesus is the Love of my life. And I look forward to "Going Home" one day and seeing Him face to face. In the mean time I am painting from His masterworks of sunlight and nature. Each painting in this series will include a path, (Holy Spirit) sun light (the Son) and a hint of liquid gold leaf paint hidden somewhere in the painting to represent the Father and His streets of gold. Some of my new paintings are on display at Black Dog Salvage. And July 23 through mid August, I will be showing 30 of my new "Going Home"paintings at Blue Ridge PBS station in Roanoke, Va. Please come to a reception Thursday 23rd from 4 to 6 at the PBS station, 1215 McNeil Drive, Roanoke, Va or view the show week days from 1 - 4. I am still working on my Blue Ridge Parkway Series with over 500 paintings posted online. My studio is open by appointment only. If you are interested in purchasing a painting online, please email janet.wimmer@gmail.com

Art teachers never retire. So after 30 years of teaching K-college, I began another life as a self employed artist. After reaching my goal (in Sept 2010)of one Parkway painting a day for one year, my intent is to keep painting the Parkway until I feel I have covered the 469 miles thoroughly. I will continue in this direction until I feel the series is finished, which may take a few more years! This blog is the journal of the journey. I also teach teens and adults in my home studio. Please e-mail if you are interested in a painting class. For more info about me check out the Roanoke Times article at www.roanoke.com/extra/wb/253109. See link below for direct access.

Treatise on why I create

An artist, musician, craftsman, theatrical director, performer, all know that the human heart longs for truth, goodness, and beauty. If we can create that sense of longing, we capture our audience in the creative experience. In Frank Baum's Wizard of Oz, Frank creates a magical story about longing for home. "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" is a plea by a young girl to find that place of rest, a home in which to feel safe. St. Augustine said "our hearts are restless until we find our rest in God". Ennio Morricone, the Italian composer, expressed his faith through his music. He sat before a painting of Jesus every day and prayed for an hour before beginning his day. His composition "The Mission" transports the listener to another place, another time, another dimension of reality - an eternal home- a celebration of beauty. My goal in painting is to draw the viewer into a higher sense of reality and to feel that sense of longing and to hopefully realize that longing is ultimately for the eternal home, Heaven.
