Slowing Life Down

Going Home Series #31 Slowing Life Down 12 x 16 oil $500.

Slowing Life down is important and I am speaking to myself now. I wish I had time to sit on one of these rocks and just think and sing and praise the Lord for what He has created!. I am teaching three days a week and painting full time! I love every minute of my life, but I will take a break from painting for the next two months to enjoy the holidays and start my Christmas shopping. It is good to refocus and prioritize life. However, my series is not finished !!!!....I still have 19 more painting in this series before I start thinking about another!

Capturing the Essence

Going Home series # 30 Capturing the Essence 22 x 28 oil $1,200

The Peaks of Otter is aways a delight to visit. This is a scene I did not paint from a photograph but from memories of the light and shadow and smell and warmth of sunlight. I am really enjoying taking the artistic license to recreate and compose with my paintings to capture the essense and not always the exact image.

Treatise on why I create

An artist, musician, craftsman, theatrical director, performer, all know that the human heart longs for truth, goodness, and beauty. If we can create that sense of longing, we capture our audience in the creative experience. In Frank Baum's Wizard of Oz, Frank creates a magical story about longing for home. "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" is a plea by a young girl to find that place of rest, a home in which to feel safe. St. Augustine said "our hearts are restless until we find our rest in God". Ennio Morricone, the Italian composer, expressed his faith through his music. He sat before a painting of Jesus every day and prayed for an hour before beginning his day. His composition "The Mission" transports the listener to another place, another time, another dimension of reality - an eternal home- a celebration of beauty. My goal in painting is to draw the viewer into a higher sense of reality and to feel that sense of longing and to hopefully realize that longing is ultimately for the eternal home, Heaven.
