Value Patterns are quick gestures of the dark shapes in a composition.  After beginning these three paintings with value sketches using black acrylic on a red canvas, I then finished each one from imagination - not referring to a photo or painting on location like I usually do.  This is stretching me to do something different and to explore the shapes, reflective light, and color theory rather than just translate what is before me.
