Do you feel the sunlight in this painting? When I was teaching full time, I used to leave the school building at lunch and sit in the sun for a while to re-energize. There were days in the winter when the sun literally pulled me outside with a force somewhat like gravity! Intuitively, our bodies know when we need the vitamins and energy we absorb from the sun. God made His Son similarly; we need to sit in His light each day to re-energize. Our souls know when we need more of Him and He pulls us to Himself to "restore our souls". (Psalms 23:3)

To be high above the earth, to sit on the rocks and observe the life below, to breathe in the cool mountain air, to see the mist rising on the mountains..... this is the essence of living in the Blue Ridge. Those who are too busy to attend this drama are missing out on much more than recreation. The theater of the universe is also a school of thought that brings us to an incredible understanding of eternal Truth.

Whenever the sky opens up, I seem to automatically wonder if today's the day for the Lord's return! The awesome wonder and glory of the sky shows God's beauty in ways that little else can. I sense a Presence, a Hand reaching down, as if to say "Look Up" and a reminder to be ready; He is coming soon!

I am working from some of my favorite old photographs. The fall of 2009 was one of the most colorful I can ever remember. And it is very interesting to compare old paintings to my newer ones. The style has changed but the memories remain the same!

We have many choices in life and many roads to travel. The "Road Less Traveled" is the one I have chosen to illustrate. There are no yellow lines, no speed bumps, no smells of gasoline and it is not even paved but the beauty, the sounds of nature, the slow pace and the enduring walk continues to draw me into a divine Presence that rejuvenates my soul.

I have tried painting this scene several times, over the last few years, with no success. This one seems to be my favorite so far....... interesting how each attempt is different. Maybe the "peace" I feel as a developing Christian artist is translating into the paint, giving me more confidence, therefore allowing me to achieve the desired effect with more success. In any case, I am entirely dependent on my Creator for any skill or improvement or success He chooses to bring my way and I am very thankful for it!
